Living Naturally With Eczema Tip: Soaks

Whether it be your hands, feet, or body, soaking is super important to help with dry itchy skin or even weeping eczema! The point of a soak is to moisturize and relax your skin, so be sure to have oil, salve, or lotion ready to put on as soon as possible.

  1. Get a tub or soaking container ready with warm (not hot!) water.
  2. Stir in your add-ins and soak for at least 15 minutes. You can safely soak for up to an hour.
  3. Gently pat dry and apply your oil, salve, or lotion.
  4. If you have them, put on some eczema wraps (gloves, leg or arm bands, socks, etc) right away.

You can do this at night before you sleep, or during the day. Soak once a day until your skin improves, or add it into your daily routine to continually help your eczema.

My favorite add-ins to soaks are baking soda, lavender or tea tree essential oil, soothing herbs (wrapped in cheesecloth and tied with a string), bentonite clay, or witch hazel (also called winterbloom).

For feet or body, use 1 cup of baking soda. It seems like a lot, but trust me, after a few days of soaking with this, your skin will thank you! For hand soaks you can use a half cup of baking soda.
