Taking care of your hair and scalp is especially important if you have eczema or psoriasis. Most store-bought shampoos and conditioners cause scalp inflammation and rashes because of the harsh chemicals used to make them. My favorite natural hair treatment is egg yolks and apple cider vinegar.
It sounds strange, but it works really well! It leaves my hair soft, silky, and most importantly, it doesn’t irritate my scalp.
Dull, brittle, or frizzy hair and itchy scalp are usually more alkaline or higher on the pH scale. ACV helps lower pH and brings hair into a healthy balance. Egg yolks have a pH level that is naturally closer to what our hair and skin need. Egg yolks contain a substance called lecithin, which combines with water and oils from your hair. When you rinse it out, it leaves only clean and pH balanced hair.
The best part? The yolk not only cleans your hair, but it conditions it as well!
To make this natural hair wash and conditioner, all you need to do is separate one egg yolk* from the whites into a small container, remove the white strings, pop the yolk, and mix it up. Next, mix up to five tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with some water in a small container.
Take your yolk and ACV with you into the shower. Once your hair is completely wet, add the yolk to your hair, starting at your part, and massaging into your roots. You can also spread the yolk throughout the rest of your hair, but when you rinse it out, it will mix into the rest of your hair from the roots.
Rinse your hair thoroughly to get all of the egg yolk out. Pour the ACV mixture over your hair and massage into your scalp. Let the apple cider vinegar sit in your hair for a couple of minutes before rinsing it out.
Try naturally washing your hair this week and let me know how it helps you!
If the apple cider vinegar or egg yolk smells too strong for you, add a drop of your favorite essential oil.
*If you are allergic or sensitive to chicken eggs, you can use four or five quail eggs!
