There is something so undeniably wonderful about Christmas. Maybe it's the cheer, the warm and cozy escape from the cold or just the reason we celebrate this holiday. Today I will be talking about 10 things you can do to make your Christmas more hygge, cozy and content.
Before I start, let me explain to you what hygge means. This is a Danish and Norwegian word for the mood of coziness with feelings of wellness and contentment.
1. Pull Out All Those Christmas Mugs
My family has a tradition of every year of getting out our Christmas themed mugs to get into the holiday spirit. These are perfect for the holiday hot chocolate, mulled cider and eggnog.
2. Make your living room cozy with fuzzy blankets, pillows and scented candles.
This is a great thing to add to your Christmas decor as it will make your living room cozy and warm.
3. Forage for christmas decor
I love this idea so much since you can make wreaths, garland with pine branches, and even put a bunch of pine cones in a punch bowl. It is such a fun way to decorate for Christmas.
4. Make your own wrapping paper
Add a little more love to your wrapping by doing this simple DIY. Buy a roll of butcher paper, and have a little party while you and your family doodle on it. To give them extra bling, buy some bows, ribbon, and gift tags. We have been doing this for years and it is such a fun tradition.
5. Let there be light
Dim the lights and have dinner in front of the fireplace or if you don't have a fireplace light up your favorite scented candles. Fire and candles make a super warm and cozy atmosphere!
6. Make a holiday potpourri
Add orange peels, cinnamon sticks, and cloves to a pot of water on the stove and simmer for hours. This will make the house smell wonderful with all the smells of holiday goodness. You can also add cranberries or apples to it for a sweeter scent.
7. Go on a Christmas lights drive
I think this is one of my favorite holiday activities. What is your favorite place to see lights? I personally love the Potlatch Scenic 6 Park's yearly display.
8. Decorate the Christmas tree together and talk about the history & memories from your favorite Christmas ornaments.
9. Plan a Christmas breakfast
I love to make pancakes or waffles the day before.
10. Have a winter bonfire and sing Christmas carols while roasting apples and marshmallows.
This is a great way to get some fresh air during the cold holiday season and is a wonderful way to spend christmas evening.
